I can't believe Everwood dropped off so much from the pilot to the 2nd episode. The pilot was one of the most amazing things I ever saw on television!

the show did well in its early years though season 4 fell off a good bit, most likely due to 7th Heaven dropping last season.

I can't believe Everwood dropped off so much from the pilot to the 2nd episode. The pilot was one of the most amazing things I ever saw on television! Yeah, but it happens. At least the numbers were still great. And if you notice, they went back up a number of times. Still, great ratings.

Everwood had great ratings for most of it's run. You can see some droppage later on. Season 3's ratings, while still good, dropped more routinely into the 4 millions. This was around the time that the network started to fool around with the show and it's time slot. Taking it off for a hiatus and putting the awful "Summerland" in there. Also, around mid-season, EW was up against the returning "24" AND ratings champ "Everybody Loves Raymond". Still, it did well with such competition. As for season 4, that brings up some bad feelings among us EW fans. By then, the WB had a new president who, for some reason, did not like the show. I guess he didn't want great, intelligent, critically acclaimed shows on his network. He threw it to the horrible slot of Thursdays at 9 after "Smallville", which was a pretty incompatible show. Many cast and crew members felt this was deliberate, that they were "thrown to the sharks", and this guy was trying to sabotage EW. Plus, the show was taken off the air and onto hiatus for like 3-4 months!. Upon it's return, it had little promotion, and another schedule change, back to it's old Monday at 9 slot. But by then, the damage was done. Still, EW held it's own. It took some hits, but it wasn't destroyed. The CW took care of that. It's a shame. Such a wonderful, brilliant series cut down in it's prime.

Its a shame. Everwood was one of the best dramas on tv. Television has not felt the same without it.
They had great ratings. I afraid season three's Andy/Amanda arc may have turned off viewers. But even so the ratings were still above average. The fourth season was a great comeback year. The finale was perfection.
Everwood deserved a fifth season. ABC Family's syndication of series of fall 2006, created a whole new fanbase for the show, which in turn could have translated into more viewers for the new season on the CW. That exactly what happened to Gilmore because of it syndication- new viewers came aboard. The CW should have taken a 'chance' and given it a 13 episodes pick up. Everwood would have had a resurgence. Gilmore Girls, 7th heaven were always on their last limbs. They should have consider Everwood importance in the long run. Now their sundays have less then 1 million viewers. Families have turned away from the network.
The CW will always be associated with their first mistake, cancelling a brillant series. 4 plus years too early.

And they kept making mistakes. They never seemed to learn. Reba was a great family show that ALWAYS did well, and did very good on the CW. What happened?. The CW needs to draw families in instead of turning them away.
Long live Everwood!.
